Autumn Winterisation and Frost Protection
Essential for all outdoor pools heading into British winter frosts. We lower water levels to below skimmers, blow clear and bung suction lines, drain pump housings and heat exchangers, and secure the winter cover. This prevents burst underground pipes and frozen heater cores.

How Our Visits Work
-
1
Water Level Adjustment
We drain the pool down below the skimmer throats using a submersible pump to protect skimmer bodies from expansion cracks.
-
2
Line Purging and Isolation
We clear remaining water from skimmer and return runs using compressed air, then seal them with rubber expanding bungs.
-
3
Plant Room Drain-Down
We remove drain plugs from pumps, sand filters, and heat exchangers, isolating electrics so nothing turns on while dry.
-
4
Winter Dosing and Covering
We distribute long-life winterising algaecide throughout the pool and anchor your cover securely against autumn winds.
Questions about this service
When should an outdoor pool be closed for winter in the UK?
Usually October, once water temperatures drop below 12 degrees Celsius and surrounding trees have dropped most leaves.
Can I leave the pool full and run the pump through winter?
You can, but UK power cuts or hard overnight frosts can freeze idle pipes and crack equipment before you notice.
Do you supply replacement brass anchor plugs if mine are seized?
Yes, we carry standard replacement brass pop-up deck anchors and stainless steel tension springs in the van.
